Black IPA
Schlafly
Black Ale – 6.1% ABV – 50 IBU
Our Black IPA is brewed for our Eastern Sales Missionary, Scott Shreffler. We used Briess’ Black Prinz malt, which is a de-husked roasted malt. The barley is dehusked before malting in order to get all the color of a stout without the roasty flavor and bitter finish. Instead, the flavor is that of a highly hopped American IPA. This ale has been dry hopped with three pounds per barrel of Amarillo, Columbus and Galaxy hops during two seperate stages of the beer’s maturation process. The two different dry hop additions are meant to increase the beer’s hop aroma to its near maximum levels. This beer is proof that you can add lots of hops to get flavor and aroma, without adding an unnecessary amount of bitterness.
