2022 marks the 20th anniversary of Dale’s Pale Ale, the voluminously hopped, groundbreaking American Pale Ale that holds the distinction of being the first craft beer ever packaged in a can. To mark the milestone, Oskar Blues Brewery announces the release of Double Dale’s Imperial IPA, a double-take on the beer that started it all.

Yuzu and Ugli fruit infusions twisted together with the blueberry, tangerine notes of Mosaic make for a tangy, juicy, zesty array of aroma and flavor. Salivation will instantly ensue with one sniff of this crushable brew (5.8% ABV, 60 IBUs) that was inspired by a Yuzu brew we made with some brewing friends in Japan.

Gubna was inbred from Oskar Blues Brewery’s hankering to confront 100+ IBU’s with a single hop to emphasize that complexity of character can arise from simple elements. This time around, GUBNA (10% ABV, 100+ IBUs) cranks up the complexity of hops by piling Cascade hops on top of copious amounts of Summit hops, balanced by the backbone of German Dark Munich Malt and Rye Malt. North American 2-row barley combines with the other grains to lay the foundation for the hop onslaught to come. Post-fermentation dry-hopping allows this monstrosity to gently coax the citrus rind and grapefruit aroma while providing a rye malt-induced, spicy-yet-round middle, and a brisk, clean bitter finish.

Just like a birthday cake, this beer has layers of velvety and fluffy flavors that build on top of each other. A triad of intense hops fuel the juicy flavor – Galaxy, Citra, and Strata. Oskar Blues’ Mama’s Little Yella Pills is an uncompromising, small-batch version of the beer that made Pilsen, Czech Republic famous. Unlike mass market “pilsners” diluted with corn & rice, Mama’s is built with 100% pale malt, German specialty malts, and Saaz hops. While it’s rich with Czeched-out flavor, its gentle hopping (35 IBUs) and low ABV (just 5.3%) make it a luxurious but low-dose (by Oskar Blues standards) refresher.

Our first lager produced with the 20 bbl brewhouse. This pilsner is a clear golden color. Four additions of Saaz hops lend a spicy-floral hop component.

This jaw-dropping Scottish strong ale (8% ABV) is brewed with bodacious amounts of malted barley and specialty grains, and a dash of beechwood-smoked malt. Old Chub features semi-sweet flavors of cocoa and coffee, and a kiss of smoke. A head-turning treat for malt heads and folks who think they don’t dig dark beer.

Old Chub Nitro served a very deep brown body with an inch to two inches of lasting, faintly beige foam. A very, very mild aroma, OC has been robbed of its rich maltiness in favor of foam. A taste of iced tea flushed with caramel and a teeny pinch of cocoa dust. Modestly sweet. Fruity accents of cherries, berries, and, maybe, candied apple. Lowly herbal, bitter hop character. A pillow soft, creamy finish with a bit of light, lingering sweetness.

At 4.9% ABV and 35 IBUs, this drinkable IPA uses several varieties of hops to target the ever-evolving flavor. The Deuce is a limited-release Hopped-Up Brown Ale and the second craft beer (following the pair’s CHAKA Belgian-Style Ale release) to be packaged in the Alumi-Tek® re-sealable pint bottle from Ball Corporation. Limited quantities of the Hopped-Up Brown Ale will be available at Oskar Blues locations (Tasty Weasel Taproom, Home Made Liquids & Solids, Grill & Brew) and in Sun King’s home market during the 2012 Great American Beer Festival week while supplies last.

This full on Hazy IPA has a vibrant white head and a creamy mouthfeel that offers intense hop aromas and flavors of pineapple, mango, grapefruit, lemon, strawberry, honeysuckle.

Unique hop combinations are the inevitable paths to evolution for the IPA fan. Intense hop flavor and very forward bitterness are representative of a west coast style. Nelson Sauvin and Simcoe lead the way with mango, white wine, and slight resinous pine. All of this is harmonized with two German varieties, Akoya and Saphir, that push the floral notes to the brim.
