Barrel-Aged Devil's Teeth (Bourbon & Coffee)Modern Times
San Diego, CA
Strong Ale
11% ABV
We upped the ante on the base beer with some delicious Bourbon barrel aged coffee. The result is a ludicrously flavorful beer with notes of burnt marshmallow, caramel and oak.
Black HouseModern Times
San Diego, CA
Oatmeal Stout
5.8% ABV
Black House is an oatmeal coffee stout bursting with coffee aroma and flavor. Modern Times is one of the only breweries in the world to roast our own coffee, which allows us to be exceptionally picky about which coffees we use and how we roast them. The result is an abundantly flavorful beer that’s incredibly complex and aromatic, with loads of roast character and a chocolate-covered espresso bean finish. But Black House packs all that flavor into a reasonable package: at only 5.8% ABV, it can comfortably be consumed by the pint.
Blazing WorldModern Times
San Diego, CA
Amber Ale
6.9% ABV
Blazing World is an aggressively hoppy beer that shares characteristics with both double IPAs and amber ales. It’s hopped with an excessive quantity of Nelson Sauvin, Mosaic, and Simcoe hops, giving it an intensely fruity, dank hop aroma, followed by a huge & complex hop flavor and a healthy dose of bitterness. Its amber body is deceptively dry, offering just enough malt backbone to support its distinctive and incredibly robust hop character.
Booming RollersModern Times
San Diego, CA
IPA
6.8% ABV
Named for The Big Lake of the Booming Rollers in Carl Sandburg’s "Rootabaga Stories"-- a beloved collection of fantastic children’s stories--this beer is an aggressively hopped Citra, Motueka, and Centennial IPA. It’s safe to say this will be the juiciest, mind blowing-est, most palate seducing creation to escape the Lomaland Fermentorium to date. The tropical hodge podge of hops and 6.8% ABV make it a prime candidate for crushing as we cruise into the heat of SoCal summer.
City of the DeadModern Times
San Diego, CA
Stout
7.5% ABV
Modern Times is the first brewery/roastery in the world to make beer with barrel-aged coffee beans. The barrel-aged coffee adds layer upon layer of rich bourbon, oak, and vanilla character to the underlying nutty, floral, full-bodied Guatemalan coffee. As a result, City of the Dead is an outrageously complex and flavorful stout, even though the beer itself has not spent any time in barrels. You can buy yourself a bag of our house-roasted barrel-aged beans - and even sign up for a coffee subscription - at moderntimesmerch.com.

IPA
7.2% ABV
Built on a meticulously layered malt bill of 2-row, white wheat malt, flaked oats, and Carafoam, this 7.2% IPA was then packed with Citra, Motueka, and Cascade hops. The end result is a beautifully soft, pillowy beer with huge tropical hop aromas and flavors of ripe mango, tangerine, and bright lime zest. It’s the liquid equivalent of a dazzling summer sunset viewed from a cashmere hammock on the deck of your own private luxury dirigible.

Sour Ale
6.2% ABV
Prepare to experience the apex of refreshment. We loaded up this sour saison with mango and orange zest for a profile resplendent with tart, tropical, citrusy flavors and aromas. It's a profoundly satisfying beer experience, and a magnificent way to start your spring season.
Fortunate IslandsModern Times
San Diego, CA
Wheat Ale
5% ABV
Fortunate Islands shares the characteristics of a hoppy IPA and an easy drinking wheat beer. A massive dose of Citra and Amarillo hops gives it a blastwave of tropical hop aromatics: mango, tangerine, and passionfruit all leap out of the glass when poured. Brewed with 60% wheat malt, Fortunate Islands also has the mild, nutty malt backbone, reasonable ABV, and restrained bitterness to make it an outstanding session beer.
Fruitlands: Passion Fruit & GuavaModern Times
San Diego, CA
Gose
4.9% ABV
Fruitlands is tart, fruity, & frighteningly delicious. The sour, salty base beer lays down the funky refreshment while a heavy dose of passion fruit and guava turns the whole thing into a wall-to-wall tropical fruit fiesta. It’s a marvelous mix of elements that collides with your mouth like a fruit-filled asteroid of flavor traveling at the supersonic speed of party.

LomalandModern Times
San Diego, CA
Saison
5.5% ABV
Lomaland is Belgian-style saison that’s both complex and quaffable. In keeping with the farmhouse tradition, Lomaland is brewed with barley, wheat, and corn, giving it a complex and delicious malt body that pairs beautifully with food. Czech Saaz hops are added in the kettle to give it a lightly grassy, peppery note and just enough bitterness to cleanse the palate. It’s distinctively rustic, earthy aroma comes from the unique blend of traditional Belgian yeast strains (95% Dupont/5% Westmalle) we use to ferment it.
OrdervilleModern Times
San Diego, CA
IPA
7.2% ABV75 IBU
Yup, we’re adding a brand new IPA to our year round line-up. Orderville is an aggressive, fragrant beer that blends the fruit-forward character of Mosaic hops with the dank, resinous stickiness of Simcoe hops. The resulting beer is immensely complex and enjoyable, with an unmistakably bangin’ aroma and a fully saturated hop flavor and finish. The cracker-dry body keeps the focus squarely on the massive, incredibly delicious hop character. Those of you that have been Modern Times junkies for a while may recall that we called our wet-hop beers (since retired) "Orderville"; this beer is a totally different recipe, but we liked the name too much to abandon it.
