(2012) Alongside ale malt we added Aromatic Barley Malt with imparts the beer’s rich toffee colour and satisfying maltiness. We used Goldings hops from 3 farms in East Kent to impart a delicate balancing bitterness and a fruity twist. We then slowly oak matured the beer to unlock the delicious flavours of vanilla and toffee locked inside the oak grain, only bottling it when we deemed it to have matured to perfection.

We are delighted to present this Limited Edition Innis & Gunn beer which has been brewed, matured and bottled to mark American Independence Day, the 4th of July 2012. Scottish and American culture has been celebrated throughout the centuries, and has helped to shape the modern world. From the Declaration of Independence, which was influenced by our nations’ shared dedication to liberty and freedom, to modern day musicians, explorers and pioneers. One of America’s National Symbols, ‘Uncle Sam’ is a real man of Scots decent. Samuel Wilson’s parents sailed to America from Greenock, Scotland. Samuel supplied the army with meat in barrels during the War of 1812-15. The barrels were prominently labelled "U.S." for the United States, but the soldiers joked that the letters stood for "Uncle Sam." This beer, then, celebrates the Heritage, the Spirit and the Character of the people of America and the people of Scotland. It is a great collaboration of full-flavoured Scottish malted barley and mouth-watering, zesty American hops, all slowly matured in our brewery in Scotland.

This is our flagship beer, the one whose discovery led to the formation of the company back in 2003. Since then we've won a string of awards for Original, most recently a third consecutive Modern Monde Selection gold award. Like the world's great wine and whisky makers we strive for depth of flavour, complexity and mellowness in every beer we produce. Innis & Gunn Original typifies this approach. Its lengthy 77-day maturation imparts flavours of toffee, vanilla and oak that perfectly complement the beer's backbone of luscious malt and fruity hop notes. The oak helps to give Innis & Gunn Original its appealing colour and also mellow the alcohol character, so although the beer is 6.6%, it's very smooth and easy to drink.
Rum AgedInnis & Gunn

Scotch Ale
6.8% ABV
Originally brewed at Belhaven for Innis & Gunn. Production moved to Wellpark - date unknown. NOTE: This is the same beer as the Oak Aged Beer Rum Finish. According to Innis & Gunn "they are the same beer, the process changed slightly so we changed the name. But the recipe is the same." Has also been seen at 6.8% Ingredients: Golden Promise and Crystal malt; Phoenix hops. We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavours might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavours had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious!

This beer takes its inspiration from the history books. As well as using flavour-packed chocolate and crystal malt, we also added treacle (molasses) which gives the beer its rich, bittersweet character. 100 years ago in Scotland, treacle was used by brewers to create depth and sweetness and to give beers a richer mouthfeel and more rounded finish.

IPA

India Pale Ale first made its name in the 19th century. Here’s hoping our pioneering IPA can make its mark too. Its fervent hoppy character hails from the unique addition of large quantities of hops at three separate points during brewing. The result is a beer that’s rounded yet refreshing, with delicate floral notes and oodles of zesty freshness. Colour Pale gold Smell Freshly mown grass, clean grapefruit and pine trees Taste Rich vanilla from the oak, with lots of zestness and a light bitterness from the hops Finish Full bodies, but still crisp and refreshing.
