Abbey Dubbel
8% ABV25 IBU
Abita Abbey Ale honors the ancient tradition of monks who perfected the art of brewing beer to support the monastery and their "liquid bread." We offer up our support and thank them with a 25-cent donation to St. Joseph's Abbey with every bottle sold of this heavenly brew. Dark amber in color, the aroma of caramel, fruits and cloves invites you to contemplate the creamy head of this "Dubbel" or double ale. Abita Abbey Ale is a malty brew, top-fermented and bottle aged to rapturous perfection. This ale pairs well with barbecue, meat stews or a nice thick steak. For dessert, try Abita Abbey Ale with milk chocolate or chocolate bread pudding.

Amber is a Munich style lager brewed with crystal malt and Perle hops. It has a smooth, malty, slightly caramel flavor and a rich amber color. Abita Amber was the first beer offered by the brewery and continues to be our leading seller. Amber is Abita’s most versatile beer for pairing with food. It has been voted "best beer" in numerous New Orleans reader polls and is used frequently in recipes of great Louisiana chefs. Because of its smooth, malty flavor, try it with smoked sausages, Louisiana boudin, or even with caviar. It’s great with crawfish and Cajun food. You might also enjoy it paired with a spicy gumbo or tomato-based pasta sauce. It also goes well also with fried catfish dipped in a tart, lemony tartar sauce. Parmesan, Pecorino and Romano cheeses are good pairings with Abita Amber.

Bourbon Street Stout is an Imperial Stout that is aged in Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon barrels. Our Imperial Stout is brewed with a combination of pale, caramel, chocolate and roasted malts. Oats are also added to give the beer a fuller and sweeter taste. The roasted malts give the beer its dark color as well as its intense flavor and aroma. After fermentation the beer is cold aged for 6 weeks. This is necessary for all of the flavors of the malt and hops to balance and produce a very smooth flavor. After the cold aging the beer is transferred into the bourbon barrels. It is then aged for another 8 weeks to absorb all of the flavors from the barrels. The result is a strong stout that brings out the roasted flavors from the malt and the warming toasted, vanilla, and bourbon flavors from the barrels.

Abita Root Beer is made with a hot mix process using spring water, herbs, vanilla and yucca (which creates foam). Unlike most soft drink manufacturers, Abita sweetens its root beer with pure Louisiana cane sugar. The resulting taste is reminiscent of soft drinks made in the 1940s and 1950s, before bottlers turned to corn sugar and fructose. Some soft drink makers add caffeine to their product, but Abita is naturally caffeine-free. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an old-fashioned root beer float. Abita Root Beer can also be used in cooking to create delicious glazes and sauces as well as cakes and other desserts, or you can keep it simple – just pour it into a frosty mug and slurp loudly through a straw

We are happy to announce that Abita Beer will be creating our first ever collaboration brew with Birrificio del Ducato. Two Boots, appropriately named for the shape of Louisiana and Italy, is a Saison brewed with peppercorn, lemon balm and honey. Birrificio del Ducato is an award-winning craft brewery located in Parma, Italy that uses natural and local ingredients. Brewmaster, Giovanni Campari, visited our brewery recently to meet with me and conduct a small initial brew. Two boots will be made with pilsner and wheat malts and hopped with German Perle hops. We used a local producer of raw honey, Blood River Honey, to give the brew a very dry finish, which is great for a Saison. The addition of the lemon, green and pink peppercorn enhances the overall flavor of the brew. The honey is added in the brewhouse at the end of the boil, and then the lemon balm and pepper is added in the aging tank. Adding the pepper to aging tank will impart the flavor and aroma without adding as much heat and spice. Finally, adding the lemon balm to the aging tank will impart the fresh flavor and aroma of the herb. In the end this is a very balanced beer with the flavors of the malted barley, wheat, hops, yeast, herbs, and honey all blending together for a refreshing brew. Two Boots will be released in very limited quantities on draft in August 2014. It will be available in 22oz bottles and as a select on draft in spring 2015.
