We then racked off a portion of the Stout into a Cruzan Rum barrel while adding equal parts of a Belgian triad consisting of Dubbel, Trippel, and Quadruppel. We then matured this blend of beer in the Cruzan barrels for another 5 months. This blend of beer creates a complex flavor and aromatic profile of tart cherry, dried apple, dark chocolate, vanilla and oak. Hardywood Singel's stylistic inspiration originates with the Trappist brewers of western Europe, who are often celebrated for their gloriously complex dubbels and tripels, and whose devotion to crafting heavenly libations is second to none. Unknown to many, some of the Trappist brewers also brew a milder ale for daily consumption within the walls of the monastery. Hardywood Singel is our interpretation of this style.

Sara Gossett is an artist from Texas who has been living in Richmond, VA for nearly ten years. Working primarily with watercolor, she loves vintage style and design and is heavily inspired by everything from the eras of Art Nouveau and Art Deco to poster art and illustration from the 1960’s & ‘70’s, hand lettering, and decorative pattern from all over the world. She also loves music, from playing the flute to playing records at the occasional DJ gig.

Hardywood Walpurgisnacht takes cue from its namesake, welcoming spring with a traditional Maibock brewed with Pilsner, Munich, and Vienna malts that's accentuated with a generous helping of beechwood-smoked malt, lending a mellow smokey character to this rich, deep-golden lager. The perfect accompaniment for combating the chill of an early spring night or for firing up the grill on those first warm days of the year.
